Saffronart, India's leading online auction house for modern and contemporary Indian art and jewelry, is holding its Autumn Online Auction of Fine Jewels on October 7-8th, 2009. With total sales estimates of 2.9 to 3.5 million USD, the 207 lots will include a range of exclusive pieces by contemporary designers, such as Shaill Jhaveri and Alpana Gujral, exceptional limited edition watches, unique objets d'art, and signed pieces from international jewelry houses like Cartier, Harry Winston and Tiffany & Co.

A pioneer of online art auctions, Saffronart, founded in 2000, is a global company with deep Indian roots. Saffronart has both broadened and simplified access to fine art and jewelry, in addition to setting global pricing benchmarks and transforming the landscape of Modern and Contemporary Indian Art. Its robust online platform and secure technology offers clients a personal, intuitive and effortless auction experience, allowing access to published prices, certificates, multiple images, histories and backgrounds of pieces, designers, and information on traditional techniques.

The Autumn Online Auction will offer several men's pieces, including limited edition watches from Audemars Piguet, Cartier and Jaquet Droz, and cufflinks encrusted with precious and semiprecious stones, along with strands of large, natural pearls and prized rubies, emeralds and diamonds set in glittering mounts and a selection of pieces that draw on traditional Indian design techniques, like elaborate mina or enamel pendants and 'kada' bangles. For the first time, the sale will also include special Objets d'Art, such as jeweled minaudieres, enamel boxes set with pearls and gemstones and jeweled sculptures by artist Prithpal S. Ladi.

Another special feature will be the ability to use Saffronart's new mobile bidding application, which enables auctioneers to bid for their favorite pieces via mobile phone with all the capabilities of regular online bidding. Already receiving a strong positive response, with a successful debut at Saffronart's recent September Online Auction, the company anticipates increasing numbers of mobile sales as more customers learn and begin using the application.

The October auction will be accompanied by an illustrated catalogue, exclusive preview events in New Delhi and Mumbai and followed by a series of global events aimed at raising awareness about India's critical position in the global jewelry market and its multifaceted gemological heritage.
