Apollo 11 Neil Armstrong Moon Landing

Forty years later the Apollo 11 and Neil Armstrong moon landing still capture our imaginations. There hasn’t been an event that really compares other than the first couple of shuttle flights. Looking back with all of the technological advances in the last 40 years, the Apollo space program and even the moon landing seem primitive in comparison. But despite our advances in technology, we haven’t been to the moon since I was one month old.

Not to say that all of the shuttle flights haven’t been important, but I’m talking about an event that captured the imagination of the Nation and the world.

The Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong moon landing is still one of the most pivotal events in human history.

Apollo 11 was another milestone in our space race against the Russians; we beat them into space and we beat them to the moon. When the Armstrong moon landing happened, and he uttered the famous words, “ This is one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”; it essentially cemented our place in history as having the premier space program.

The Collins, Aldrin and Armstrong moon landing was a triumph all the way, but it is one of those pieces of history that is only remembered on special anniversaries; I don’t think schools are teaching it, that needs to change.
